After seeing post after post on Facebook about this new craze called Pokemon Go, I was curious about it. I never really understood much about Pokemon, but if this strange game could get my 11-year-old gamer son out from behind his computer and Xbox, I figured it was worth a download.
We downloaded the game onto each of our phones on Friday and he was instantly hooked. We spent the first night walking around our neighborhood trying to catch the critters, but soon found out we don't have many Pokemon out here in the country. On Monday, I had to go to the post office to get our orders sent out and my son for the first time ever wanted to tag along. He soon discovered there were many Pokestops and gyms in our little town, so we parked the truck and decided to take a walk around our downtown area, something we rarely do. Not only did we catch a lot of Pokemon and collect lots of Pokeballs and eggs, we had fun discovering parts of our town we didn't know existed. We even discovered we had a local museum just off Main Street!
Overall, it was a fun way to get my son out of the house and enjoy some time together, but less than a week later the Pokecraze has worn off and my son has resumed his spot at his desk chatting with his friends while playing Xbox games. It was fun while it lasted.
